GAME ON

JEAN EISENMANN 2023-03-14 06:13:35

Spiral Diner & Bakery has introduced inventive new pathways for connecting with others over healthy food, drinks and entertainment.

There’s a new game in town -- actually, several games. Spiral Diner and Bakery, the all-vegan hot spot off the square in Denton, has launched Friday night game night. Every Friday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., the diner provides customers with board games and tabletop games to bring people together and share a good time, while igniting some healthy gaming competition.

The eatery provides games for children and adults. “We encourage customers to bring in their own favorites, too,” said Regional Manager Quinn Ofeno. So far, the most popular games are Clue and Uno.

“Friday night game night is exclusive to Spiral Diner’s Denton location, and not a feature introduced at our Fort Worth diner,” Ofeno said. “We care so much about Denton and are proud to be part of it. This is our creative way of bonding with the community and providing what we thought Dentonites would enjoy.”

In conjunction with game night, the team at Spiral introduced reverse happy hour. From 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, folks can enjoy smaller plates of the diner’s popular nachos and wash them down with $2 discounted beer and wine. All margaritas, mimosas and espresso drinks are $1 off. “Sometimes people who are new to vegan food want to try smaller portions first,” CEO Samantha Ofeno said. “We started reverse happy hour and game night as fun alternatives to visiting a bar.”

Spiral Diner & Bakery has been satisfying the palates of Denton County vegans since 2017, and steadily growing in popularity. That’s not easy to do in the land of barbecue. Veganism means refraining from eating animals and any products made from animals, whether out of love and compassion, or for health reasons.

Being vegan represents more than just a food choice. It’s a lifestyle, with a growing community of devotees. Healthy and flavorful, the diet is plantbased, yet not just “rabbit food.”

“We vegans advocate love for the planet, its people and for animals,” Samantha Ofeno said. In fact, Spiral has a history of relationships that began at the diner, which inspired both their tagline and the T-shirts sold at each location: “Spiral is for lovers.”
