Tasha’s Salon

This Denton salon transforms every type of hair into something beautiful.

Natasha “Tasha” Nicholson knows how to make things pretty. People, too. The décor of Tasha’s Hair Salon in Denton reflects that, with its sparkling chandelier, pale pink walls and accessories that embrace the feminine side.

Owner Nicholson has specialized in hairstyling and makeup application since 2006. She is the salon’s sole proprietor and stylist, servicing all types of hair, and for all ethnicities.

After graduating with the highest level of achievement from Salon Professional Academy in Lewisville, Nicholson gained experience working for chain salons where the owners and most clients were Caucasian. “Clients assumed that because I’m a woman of color, I could only style braids and cut ethnic hair,” Nicholson said. “They were skeptical, but once they agreed to trust me, they were thrilled with the results.”

As time passed, Nicholson grew tired of sharing with salon owners the money earned for her hard work and she branched out on her own. “The math never added up in my favor,” she said. In 2014, that conclusion resulted in Nicholson becoming a business owner within a salon suite in Denton. In 2019, the opportunity to relocate to a free-standing salon presented itself through one of her satisfied clients, and that became the salon’s current location.

Hair services at Tasha’s Salon include color, Brazilian blowout, extensions (tape-ins and sewins), dreadlocks and silk presses to straighten hair. Tasha also is a custom wig maker. She offers both glam and natural beauty makeup applications. A typical haircut is $55. Most other services are $95 and up.

Today, Nicholson is living a fulfilling life, both personally and professionally. Yet her path has been fraught with obstacles.

She’s a single mom of three, their ages ranging from 2 to 16. “I endured a 10-year custody battle and nearly lost everything, including my kids,” Nicholson said. “My youngest was born while my mom was a patient in the same hospital, suffering -- then recovering -- from COVID. I’ve battled depression, and my transparency has been a factor in others taking advantage of me personally. Tragedy has only made me stronger, and able to appreciate the good things I have even more.”
