On Aug. 5, the Oakmont Ladies Golf Association raised $1,000 for Texas Coalition for Animal Protection during its monthly golf tournament. It was held at Oakmont Country Club in Corinth, and 32 members showcased their skills. The association’s members range from 30 to 80 years old and are of all skill levels. TCAP is a nonprofit spay and neuter clinic in Denton. TCAP relies on charitable contributions to sustain its programs, including its free Feral Fix program and free rabies vaccine events. This summer, four Denton County students were awarded scholarships by the North Texas State Fair Association for the 2023-2024 school year. Bryce Borchardt of Krum was awarded the North Texas State Fair association scholarship. She plans to study animal science at Texas A&M University. Graham Whitewood of Sanger received the Bob C. Powers scholarship. He plans to major in animal science and minor in construction management at Texas Tech University. The recipient of the Robert Bell & Bobby Jones Memorial Trade or Vocational scholarship was Katelyn Collins of Corinth. She plans to attend Texas Tech University to study equine science and agribusiness. Rhiannon Klodowski was awarded the Harry Hall & Bill Allen Continuing Education scholarship. From Pilot Point, Klodowski attends Texas A&M University – Commerce where she studies animal science. The North Texas State fair Association is a nonprofit dedicated to the preservation of western heritage.
On Aug. 17, Denton Public Media LLC held a celebration for the winners and finalists of its 30th annual Best of Denton competition. Denton County residents voted for the best businesses in categories ranging from restaurants to pet groomers to car repair. During the contest, some 46,143 nominations were made and 102,727 votes were cast. The winners received plaques, banners and more to honor their win. The event was held at Harvest House in downtown Denton, and attendees were treated with drinks and food. For more information, and to see the full list of winners, go to BestOfDenton.com.
