On May 16, the local Salvation Army was honored during National Salvation Army Week at the Denton County commissioners meeting. With 17 centers of operation across North Texas, The Salvation Army is the largest social service provider in the region and provides year-round social services to nearly 100,000 people annually. Every year since 1954 – when President Eisenhower declared the first National Salvation Army Week – the organization is recognized for its service and as a reminder to Americans to support their neighbors in need.
