Habitat for Humanity of Denton County dedicated its 107th house on Feb. 23 at 601 Rose Street in Denton. Shonbray Johnson and her children worked hundreds of hours of sweat equity to fulfill the requirements of being a home recipient. Johnson will receive a zero equivalent interest loan from Habitat for Humanity of Denton County and pay an affordable monthly mortgage. The home is roughly 1,360 square feet, with four bedrooms and two full baths, and the kitchen boasts brand new appliances, a large island, granite countertops and a farmhouse sink. This is the first Habitat home to earn the Energy Star label, meaning it met strict requirements set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and also underwent more inspections and testing than typical homes. It was built by more than 250 community volunteers and backed by generous sponsors and in-kind partners. For more information, visit HabitatDentonCounty.org.
