Denton Bicycle Center

This shop is dedicated to cycling, and delivers personalized service, quality repairs and the best bikes in town.

Denton County had only 81,311 residents in 1971 when Dr. Joe Holland opened Denton Bicycle Center, touting the health benefits of cycling to patients, family and friends. More than 50 years later, his grandson, Joe Holland, is carrying on the family legacy, managing the little shop on Elm Street that continues to help Dentonites find their best ride.

“Riding a bicycle is a no-impact aerobic activity. It’s great for any age or for those who are just getting back into fitness,” Holland said. For someone just starting their cycling journey, Holland advises visiting the store to try bikes, asking questions, and evaluating why and how the bike will be used. “Anybody can go to a box store and get a bike, but I’d rather make sure that you get the right fit, not something you’re going to leave in the garage,” Holland said.

A quality bicycle is an investment. Prices range from $600 to $800 for a beginner bicycle as well as the ongoing maintenance costs of repairs. “The better the quality of the bicycle, the better the ride you will have,” Holland said. Customers are encouraged to try bikes at the store, even if they are not ready to make a purchase.

“We also do repairs and have serviced the bikes of some families for generations,” Holland said. “We care about the relationship beyond the sale.”

Whether you’re a savvy commuter utilizing an electric-assisted bicycle to get to work without breaking a sweat or a trail enthusiast looking for the next adventure, riders discover that Denton County is bikefriendly. Holland recommends taking a ride on the Denton Katy Trail, which offers miles of scenic pathway and runs from the Downtown Denton Transit Center south to Swisher Road in Lake Dallas.

The store offers a wide selection of accessories, helmets, tires and tools. It also provides educational repair clinics as well as trade-ins for those wanting to upgrade their ride.
